Welcome to Matlock Cycling Club

We are a friendly club with members ranging from children taking their first pedal strokes to cyclists who enjoy success racing at world class level. We are a volunteer run organisation that supports the interests of cyclists of all ages and ability and works with the local community. This website explains all you need to know about Matlock Cycling Club and how to join in!

It’s the second Sourdough Saturday Social ride this week on 18th January. Route is 48km, 850m climbing. Option to split off back to Matlock at 20km. Meet at Sourdough Bakery and Cafe at the bottom of Bank Road, Matlock. 8:45am meet for a coffee, 9am start.

Busy evening racing at Derby Arena Track League, Tim in the Masters, Tom in G2…..

Into 2025 we go and we have a full programme of Matlock CC events coming up for your enjoyment! The club time trial programme is out (see image) and is loaded into the club website calendar. First up are the Sheldon Circuit TTs and long 25 mile hilly events in February and March. Then once the clocks go forward in April we have the Tuesday Ashford 5 mile and Thursday hilly events. In May we switch to the evening 10 mile events and around them we have the usual sprinkling of 25 mile and a 50 mile. Hillclimbs as usual with the Summer Winster Wakes and Riber / Bank Road events and something extra special to sign the year off with the National Hillclimb Championship!

Something there for everyone and we hope to see lots of you taking part across the year as these are a really fun, friendly and accessible way to test yourself (non MCC members are very welcome to take part).

First race of the year for Isla Woolf as a Youth A at Monsters of Track Round 1 hosted by Johnstone Jets. Isla says she didn’t feel at her best in a full field of riders but as always a great experience at a really well organised event. Provisional results, Points race 7th Elimination 7th Scratch 1 6th, Scratch 2 11th.

Well done to Helen Kirk today racing in icy conditions at the cyclo cross national championships with a great 7th pkace 👏

More about the Matlock CC youth Team:
Aimed at competitive minded Matlock CC youth riders aged 12 to 18 the Youth Team has been set up to support and encourage youth racing cyclists through the youth categories and to Junior level within a ‘team ethos’ where they can help and support each other and act as inspiration for the younger (and older!) club riders. When a club rider reaches 12 they will be invited to join the team, however it is not intended to be compulsory and a rider of that age can continue on as a club member if they choose. There are a number of criteria and a level of racing the Youth Team are expected to achieve. These are not too onerous but do require racing at a number of local and regional events (NDCXL, Track leagues, MTB etc) which can be tailored towards the riders’ particular interests. We also have a number of social activities such as the monthly Youth Ride and the annual 50 mile challenge which are intended to foster friendship and share experiences.
Our aim is to keep them enjoying their cycling, to develop a friendly team ethos by supporting each other, the help them develop technically and physically and to get the best out of themselves at whatever level that may be. We aim to race, train and ride together through activites like the Youth Club Ride. We will encourage and help and support with racing at regional and national level whether that’s advice, coaching, advice entering events etc.. We also encourage parental support and involvement! Matlock Youth Team riders have access to subsidised clothing - the youth team kit is the same design as the club kit but does have ‘Youth Team’ displayed on it as a way of giving the team its own identity. We also support entry to Regional and National events through the young riders fund.

Go Ride Youngsters Coaching at Whitworth Park 2024-25

Do you have a youngster aged 4 to 11 wanting to do more cycling? This where you need to bring them - all welcome, just turn up with a bike in good working order and helmet please!
